Topic: The Beginning of Religion - It happened in

Turkey

Abstract

Where did religion start? When? Where did monotheism begin? We'll look around the Bible, the Koran, and Turkey to see what answers we can find.

We'll summarize what scientists think they understand and what mysteries remain. We'll close with some implications for religion today.

Biography

Rabbi Larry Seidman is a community rabbi in Irvine, CA. His practice draws from a wide range of Jewish traditions and combines them with the rationality of modern thought.  He serves as a chaplain in the Orange County jail system, and is frequently called to officiate at weddings, funerals, and counseling for Jewish and interfaith families. He has also served as the religion columnist for the Orange County Register.  Before entering the rabbinate, Rabbi Larry had a career as an aerospace engineer and senior manager. He was recently featured, along with his rabbi wife, in the Wall street Journal.  His website is RationalRabbi.com.
