TIPS FOR GETTING YOUR EVENT APPROVED AND POSTED, AND POSSIBLY ANNOUNCED ON THE AIR
KPFK reserves the right to edit announcements submitted for the Calendar. The less editing we have to do to your submission the more easily it can be approved for posting on our Web site and possible announcement on the air.
Some guidelines for composing announcements follow:
PLEASE be concise! The less copy we need to read, the simpler it will be for us to accept an announcement. Announcements should include the basics: what, who, when, where, why, and contact information for the public. Please don't simply copy and paste a press release into our form; there will often be duplicate information and extra text that we'll need to remove.
Please ALWAYS provide a way for the public to contact you or your organization for more information. Providing a phone number increases the likelihood that your event may be announced on the air, in addition to posting on the website.
Please use value-neutral language in your description of the event. In other words all statements must be based in fact. Adjectives such as "terrific," "delicious," "complete," "high-quality," "special," "famous," "fun" and "interesting" are all value judgments and/or statements of opinion that cannot be guaranteed as part of what someone will experience at the event, and so cannot be part of the announcement.
As a non-commercial radio station, we cannot announce admission or registration fees. We can announce that the event is free, or a suggested donation will be requested; no one will be turned away for lack of funds. We may also say "for registration information, please contact..." or "for ticket information, please contact:"
Your announcement CAN NOT include a call to action, e.g., "Come join us at Lincoln Park," or "Let's all blow bubbles for justice!" or "Show your support!" or even "Don't forget!!" As a non-commercial radio station, we cannot issue calls to action beyond participation in our own fundraising activities and events.
We are happy to promote all events that are consistent with the Pacifica mission, embracing educational, cultural, activist, and entertainment activities that appeal to the diversity of KPFK's listenership. Keep in mind that, because of the volume of submissions we receive, there's no guarantee that every submission will be used. Event information should be submitted as soon as possible before the date of the event.
