Agenda
Greetings in the spirit of the Most High . This is Sista Arisa with Freedom Now ‘s agenda for this Tues May 12,2009.
24 years ago on May 13 1985 the Philadelphia Police Department under an African mayor, bomb the headquarters and residences of the MOVE organization. This bombing was the 2nd time in US history that bombs were dropped on its own so called citizens. The Ist being the bombing of the Negro Wall Street in Tulsa Oklahoma in 1921. We will commemorate this vicious assault with Sista Ramona Africa one of the survivors of the police bombing as well as get an update on Mumia Abu Jamal and other MOVE political prisoners still incarcerated.
May 23 is African Liberation Day and Brotha Mateef will provide an overview of the history and significance of this the only globally Pan African event as well as the relevance of African Liberation day in this post colonial era.
Brother Sundiata an original spoken word griot will bless us with a new piece to add some flavor to our show .
Dedon will provide us with the African Drum Beat historical calendar.
Sista Abibe will close out the show with Part 2 of her presentation on a “Over View of the Cote de Ivoire or the Ivory Coast . Freedom Now seeks to break the barriers of the language balkanization that divides our French speaking Sista and Brothers from we English speakers. Clearly history has demonstrated that education is the most powerful weapon to bring about this understanding. So Sista Abebe will provide a brief Post colonial history of the Cote’De Ivory as well as contemporary issues especially the French governments continued effort to re-impose colonialism in the Cote De Ivoire.
Our music mix will include Zap Mama, Sonny Ade, Dead Prez, Ramatou Diakite, the Revolutionaires, Augusto Pablo, and 10th Planet with a clip from Kwame Ture..
We hope you enjoy tonights program. Any criticism positive or negative hopefully constructive can be sent to Freedomnow @KPFK.org and as always we stand ready for the revolution.
