Freedom Now's Mission Statement

  Freedom Now is a Pan African & Internationalist Radio/Web broadcast weekly program (Tues 8-9 pm) which promotes the struggles of  African people and the oppress through interviews, guest, archival footage, music, commentaries, speeches , spoken word, a multitude of vehicles to expose and analyse the tri-paradim contradictions of Nation (Race), Class and Gender . Freedom Now utilized extensive music, edits,special effects with a thrust toward presenting critical information  in a creative form.

        Freedom Now history began in 1982 when KPFK under a mandate from the Pacifica National Board instituted a policy of inclusion of People of color. Numerous Africans, Native Americans/Chicano's and Asian scholars & activist were recruited to the Station Board, Volunteer committees and on-air programs to better reflect the objective Ethnic demographics of Los Angeles and the changing Ethnic demographics. Freedom Now's Host and Producer Dedon was provide a monthly show and became a activist within the Pacifica governance bodies including Chairman of the Local Station Board for 8 years and a member of the National Board.

      In 1992 a purge of "Progressive  Programmers of Color" and Board members ocurred as part of a conservative agenda to relocated KPFK and Pacifica to the evolving rightward main stream of news, information and culture. Freedom Now came under attack from conservative Congressmen Hefly of Colorado, the ADL et al. for investigative reporting that challenge prevailing myths. Subsequent Senate Hearings in D.C., and other investigations failed to document any of the allegations and under the management of Eva George Freedom Now was reinstated in May 2004 as a weekly progam. Praise the Lord, Jah Rastafari, Insha Allah.

    Freedom Now is committed in spite of the increasing war like, racist, sexist , class chavinist ,Imperialist climate of the present  U.S.government to provide a "Voice for the Voiceless" based on Pacifica's mission statement. We at Freedom Now in addition are committed to a higher standard rooted in humanist and spiritual principles that dictate people over profits that all humans are equal whether Bloods or homeless, Muslums or Rastafarians , Iraqes, or Palestinians, Women or children, Poor or working class, Libyans, or Zimbawee's. Freedom Now is committed to radical social change to defeat the oligarchy of power held by less than 1% of the population of the ruling class which manipulates and controls the social, cultural,economic wealth that 99% of society produces.
