DESCRIPTION: in-depth interviews with individuals who hold pieces of the puzzle of a world that just might work. We look at new, innovative and provocative approaches to business, environment, health, science, politics, media and culture ? all based on the fact that I believe we can do better and I want to find out how.

The interviews often appear in print at www.AlterNet.org.

My session with Norman Lear streams at http://www.learcenter.org/ html/about/?cm=/press_2000.

BIO:

TERRENCE McNALLY hosts the radio show Free Forum (KPFK 90.7fm, Los Angeles, streaming at kpfk.org), in-depth conversations with people who offer pieces of the puzzle of ?a world that just might work,? provocative approaches to business, health, science, environment, politics, media and culture. Guests have included Ken Burns, Kevin Phillips, Deborah Tannen, Eric Schlosser, Bill Joy, Robert Reich, Andrew Weil, Arianna Huffington, Paul Hawken, Jeremy Rifkin, Ralph Nader, Noam Chomsky, Catherine Crier, Scott Turow, Paul Krugman, Bill Maher, and Norman Lear. His interviews appear in print at AlterNet.org.

He works as a consultant, speaker, writer, and coach for corporations, public agencies, and non-profit organizations. His organizational work encourages and focuses communication, creativity, and cooperation; resolves conflicts; clarifies and aligns vision, mission and objectives; and develops plans for effective action. Clients range from the Environmental Protection Agency, Union of Concerned Scientists, and Natural Resources Defense Council, to Business for Social Responsibility, Rhino Records, and Interface Flooring.

As a facilitator, Terrence models and promotes respect and productive listening. In resolving conflicts he looks for shared values and goals, where ?opponents? can be seen to be on the same side -- the side of the project, the organization, or the larger mission. His work with individuals focuses on their defining and effectively delivering their message in person or in writing, live or through the media. He is in demand to present the Natural Step's scientific management framework for sustainable development, and to speak about issues of strategic communication, whether within internal teams or to the national media.

A Harvard graduate, where he won its highest academic award, McNally's address to the 20th Reunion of the class of 1969 was featured on CBS 'Sunday Morning with Charles Kuralt'. He has also worked as a writer, producer, and director of documentaries ("Buckminster Fuller - World Man, World Game", BBC's 1992 Earth Summit special "Greenbucks?.) In 1985, he co-wrote and produced Julie Brown's "Goddess In Progress", voted #4 mini-album of the year in the Village Voice National Music Critics Poll. Having acted in over a hundred films and television shows, McNally co-wrote and co-produced the musical comedy feature "Earth Girls Are Easy". Called by Time Magazine "the freshest thing to come out of the space program since Tang?, it is now being developed as a Broadway musical.

Co-author with Hyla Cass MD of Kava: Nature's Answer to Stress, Anxiety, and Insomnia , Terrence is an annual participant at the Conference on World Affairs, a member of the Television Academy of Arts & Sciences, and has served on the boards of Earth Communications Office, Show Coalition, and Education 1st.

TERRENCE McNALLY is a media host and speaker, consultant, writer, and coach for public agencies, non-profit organizations, and corporations, focusing on the mastery of message and media and the power of compelling stories.

McNally hosts FREE FORUM in Los Angeles (kpfk, 90.7fm) and on the web (www.kpfk.org) featuring “a world that just might work.” His show, UP NEXT (satellite/LinkTV), features in depth interviews with big thinkers like Jeremy Rifkin and Jared Diamond. His work appears in print at AlterNet.org.

Having worked as an actor, writer, producer, and director, McNally's film "Earth Girls Are Easy" with Geena Davis, Jeff Goldblum and Jim Carrey is being developed as a Broadway musical. A graduate of Harvard, where he won its highest academic award, he's co-author with Hyla Cass MD of Kava: Nature's Answer to Stress, Anxiety, and Insomnia, and is at work on a book which asserts that health -- for an individual or a society – calls for dealing with systems instead of symptoms and focusing on root causes and upstream solutions.
Endorsements:
Greg Palast, BBC, author, The Best Democracy Money Can Buy
...the kind of info-heavy ear-grabbing program missing in action on US airwaves.

Norman Lear, writer, producer, public citizen
... McNally asks the surprising questions.

Warren Bennis, author, authority on leadership and change
...World-class interviewer, a master, capable of bringing out your best.

Deborah Tannen, author, You Just Don't Understand
...With incisive questions aimed not only at the book's contents but also at my personal life story, he managed to get me to say things I'd never said before

Robert Wright, author, The Moral Animal; Non-Zero
,Terrence McNally consistently goes for the long ball. He's interested in the biggest questions, and he probes deeply into the minds and lives of the people who are tackling them.

Tom Hayden, activist, legislator, author, Street Wars
,Terrence's deep understanding of issues is rare in our fast-paced, chattering media environment.

Daniel Goleman, author, Emotional Intelligence
... offers grounds for hope, rays of light, and a damn fine hour of radio.

Mark Hertsgaard, author, The Eagle's Shadow; On Bended Knee
...Curious, enthusiastic, charismatic, he welcomes unconventional perspectives and isn't afraid to laugh at himself. Above all, he knows how to listen, so his audience is happy to do the same.

Brian Swimme, cosmologist, author, The Hidden Heart of the Cosmos
,In a McNally interview you feel as if you're rafting through whitewater. Sudden turns, explosions of humor, that wonderful feeling of spinning out of control as the insights keep popping, sometimes drenched, other times basking in the sunlight.

Paul Krassner, author, commentator, editor, The Realist
, he skillfully serves as a lightning rod for roasting sacred cowboys.
