Sara Tavares is an exceptional Portuguese singer/songwriter and guitarist of Cape Verdean descent whose gentle, sensual music reflects the cosmopolitan spirit of her native Lisbon. Don't miss a mesmerizing performance by Tavares, bringing together her multilingual wordplay and lulling dance rhythms reminiscent of Cape Verde, Angola, Brazil, and beyond.

"Beautifully melodic songs that have a dreamy, uplifting energy to them... Sara Tavares has a very fresh perspective." —Lucinda Williams

    EL CID - THURSDAY OCT. 22 - 7:30PM - $8 DOOR

Three Angelino musicians, Carla Hassett, Elle and Kandace Lindsay celebrate their upcoming CD releases.  “She Moves In Mysterious Ways” is a night to celebrate the unveiling of the new material.  In true diva style, the night will be like sampler dessert tray – a teasing little taste off each CD.

All three musicians bring their own brand of sizzle in their soulful music that is distinctly LA.  Carla Hassett brings her sultry Brazillian soul to El Cid for her first performance in LA in over a year after living in São Paulo.  With her french-canadian roots, Montreal-born Elle sings with a sweet sense of cool soul that's as easy to fall into as a boudoir daydream.  Kandace Lindsay’s hard-hitting blend of raw, gritty, soulful rock music is hot like the Phoenix NM heat she came from.

    MOVIE DESCRIPTION:

I AM CUBA is a Soviet-Cuban homage to the Cuban Revolution. Through a brilliant quartet of vignettes, it takes us on a slow and seductive journey through a society on the cusp of transformation - marking the waning years of the Batista regime before Castro actually came to power but during the birth pains of the revolution. As a quintessential film, it is revolutionary in
