Musical Journey through Latin America Comes to Santa Clarita
Concert to Benefit Santa Clarita Sister Cities Programs
The Santa Clarita Valley International Program (SCVIP), Sister Cities, and the City of Santa Clarita are joined by Joao Junqueira and Vento Sur, a CalArts all-alumni musical group, in bringing a unique benefit concert to Santa Clarita. Musical Journey through Latin America, to be held on September 8, 2012 at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC), celebrates the culture and music of Latin American countries, including Ecuador, Nicaragua, Colombia, Argentina, and Brazil, and emphasizes the hopes and struggles of Latin Americans.
Music professionals and students from the Santa Clarita Valley will perform folk and popular music styles like Tango, Cumbia, and Samba, utilizing music and dance as a medium for transcendence and as a uniting element for Latin American cultures. The music performance will be complemented by video images created by Visual Artist Designer, Ana Maria Peñaranda.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit SCVIP’s programs, including medical missions to Santa Clarita’s sister cities in Tena, Ecuador and Sariaya, Philippines. The Santa Clarita Valley International Program is a non-profit organization focused on the development of sister city relationships and projects that promote mutually beneficial strategic alliances and international goodwill.
Concert tickets are on sale for $20, $10, and $5, and are available at the PAC Box Office, www.canyons.edu/PAC. Sponsorships for the concert are also available. For more information, please contact Elena Galvez at (661) 255-4317 or scvip@santa-clarita.com. http://joaojunqueira.com/Vento_Sur/welcome.html.
