The Boycott, Divestment and Sanction (BDS) Movement
Palestine’s “South Africa Moment?”
In anticipation of the local speaking engagements of one of the key figures in the Palestinian BDS Movement, this week’s Radio Intifada focuses on the rationale and recent successes of BDS campaign, with a special emphasis on the academic and cultural boycott campaigns and the way in which Israeli control of water is a means of ethnic cleansing. We will be discussing both the international and local campaigns with:
Omar Barghouti, independent Palestinian researcher and human rights activist, Barghouti is a founding member of the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI). He will be speaking in Los Angeles on November 1st and 2nd (see below for details).
Feras Abou Galala, Palestinian scholar originally from the village of Yebna in Al-Ramle Province, currently teaches electrical engineering at the University of California, Riverside. He is the co-founder of Teachers Against Occupation (TAO) at UCR and is on the organizing committee of the US Committee for Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (www.usacbi.org).
Yael Korin was born and raised in Israel to a family that survived the Holocaust. A research scientist at UCLA, Korin was a co-founder of Women in Black Los Angeles and is a founding member of the Campaign to End Israeli Apartheid, Southern California (www.CEIA-SC.org) as well as the BDS-LA coalition.
