Segment 1 Interview with Synthia Saint James
You may have noticed her work gracing the cover of Terry McMillan’s Waiting to Exhale, Iyanla Vanzant inspirational work Acts of Faith, or perhaps one of the many children’s books she’s either illustrated and or written.
Well, the her I’m talking about is renowned artist Synthia Saint James whose work includes the 1st comissioned United States Postal Service Kwanzaa stamps, numerous children's picture books, architectural designs and more.
Segment 2 United African Alliance Community Center with Mama Charlotte O'Neal
The late '60's saw a tremendous upsurge of desire for self determination and community control in the inner cities of America. The Black Panther Party was a prime example of unity of will and purpose, as evidenced through its many programs and projects. The Kansas City Chapter under the leadership of Pete O’Neal became a force to be reckoned with because of both its political will and fierce resistance to oppression in all its forms. Since 1972 Pete and Charlotte O’Neal have continued their work toward the liberation and sustainability of African people. As community organizers they founded the United African Alliance Community Center (UAACC) in Arusha where they have made their home for well over 30 years.
Right now I’m joined in studio by Charlotte O’Neal whose on a rare visit to Los Angeles.
