L.A. Theatre Works’ Radio Theatre Series will air The Road to Mecca, written by Athol Fugard, directed by Steve Albrezzi, and featuring Julie Harris, Amy Irving and Harris Yulin. The broadcast can be heard locally in Southern California on Sunday, August 12 from 8 -10 pm on KPFK 90.7 FM in Los Angeles (98.7 FM in Santa Barbara, 99.5 FM in Ridgecrest/China Lake and 93.7 FM in Rancho Bernardo/North San Diego), and can also be streamed on demand at www.latw.org.
Athol Fugard's award-wining play is based on the true story of a reclusive elderly woman who created a fantastical world of light and sculpture in her small South African village, but whose inner life has come under threat from her wary and superstitious neighbors.
