JANET KLEIN & The Parlor Boys.......
Come out and frolic with Ukulele Chanteuse Janet Klein & Her Parlor Boys ! Janet and her distinctive musician pals bring to life "Obscure, Naughty and Lovely tunes of the 1910s, 20s & 30s, delivering a bundle of spirited and inspired renditions of cleverly fun but forgotten Tin Pan Alley, early hot jazz, saucy bits and late ragtime gems. These merrymakers zestfully branch into obscure vaudeville and Vitaphone numbers, Hawaiian, Yiddish novelty tunes, French and Italian knock-out ballads. The Parlor Boys feature Ian Whitcomb, on accordion and ukulele (A Backstage favorite) , as well as the astonishing guitar, banjo and whistling talents of John Reynolds and Tom Marion on guitar, banjo & mandolin, alumni of R. Crumb's Cheap Suit Serenaders, along with a bevy of hot musicians on violin, cornet, trombone and slap-happy bass.. Watch out for the Charming and Alarming Ms. Klein!

Hawaiian Pidgin English Stories with Kamaka Brown
Hawaiian island native Kamaka Brown returns to the Coffee Gallery Backstage with his show of original short storiesaccompanied by guitarist T.Dan Hofstedt. His January 2009 show was sold out. This is a whole band show with all the trimmings. Outstanding.
Brown, a comic, writer, and producer born and raised in Hawai'i now lives in Southern California. He has a catalog of original stories written in Hawai'ian Pidgin English of pre-statehood Hawai'i told through the eyes of a child living in rural O'ahu.
This is a one of a kind unique show that must be experienced to understand. Previously sold out shows in Southern California attest to the power of the spoken word and the joy of a simple solo guitar playing softly like a gentle breeze blowing along a north shore beach at sunset.
The show will feature slack key guitarist T.Dan Hofstedt. T.Dan has beautiful CDs out with his original compositions. "T.Dan has been influenced by the masters of slack key. His music flows sweet and melodic a perfect background to my stories," Brown said. Contemporary Hawaiian music duo ISLAND JAM with Miles Kaawa and Noel Calucag provide musical selections to enhance the experience.
