John Osborne's "Look Back in Anger" was deemed the first "angry young man" play, a "kitchen sink drama" dealing with an alienated working class generation, offering a more realistic take on contemporary life than that offered by more "escapist" theatre. Its influence on the trajectory of theatre was immense. It was adapted into a film by Tony Richardson starring Richard Burton.
