From its origins in the '60s self-help movement through the proliferation of eastern spirituality in Western culture, the rise and fall of Yogi Bijan and Kundalini yoga are examined in this 4-part docuseries, HBO's "Breath of Fire," which illuminates a complicated history from the ascendancy of a cult following to the establishment of a monetary juggernaut, extravagant life styles, as well as the subsequent accusations of child abuse, sexual abuse, criminal drug smuggling and boiler room scams. It examines "complicated themes of cultural appropriation and the dangers of self-proclaimed gurus," and the tragic end of one of its predominant teachers.
